Red Crystal Malt

Post by badleebrewed » Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:40 pm

I have ordered some of this crystal malt and have never brewed with it before.
This from the vendor's site

400-EBC Red Crystal Malt (1 lb) - Thomas Fawcett & Sons

For all kinds of red, amber and dark top-fermented beers, especially Bitter, Porter, Stout and Russian Imperial Stout.

Brings rich notes of caramel and toffee

EBC: 350 - 450

Usage: 5% - 10% of grist.

Has anybody any experience with it ?
Cheers :D

I used it once in a Rye IPA and it imparted a nice colour with a bit of sweetness. This I used 7% of the grist.

Thanks nasty, I was under the impression that it would go well with rye in an IPA.
