Reusing Wyeast 1187

Post by JCU » Wed Oct 18, 2017 10:03 pm

Hello Everyone,

I've been brewing a couple of beers with Wyeast 1187 liquid yeast which is marvellous stuff. Knocks the socks off Safale 04.
And would like to try reusing the yeast for my next brew rather than buying another 4 sachets (brew length is 65 litres).
The recipe is a Thwaites Wainwright clone, and yes I'd like to try it with the Ringwood clone yeast. North meets South.

The yeast will be reused immediately from my current fermentation, so any advice to a novice yeast recycler would be most appreciated.

Thanks

JCU

It needs to be top cropped. If you can pitch it straight away into a fresh batch of wort, you'll get the best result. Otherwise use it within a few days. Any longer, make a starter using a portion of the top cropped yeast.

Ringwood is one of my faves too. I’ve reused it many times over - just made a starter and it was fine.
