Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
Hi all,
I'm hell bent on nailing a good golden ale ready for the summer, I have put this together, my thinking was to keep it simple, have a punchy citrus and floral aroma but be sessionable and light. Does anybody have any thoughts, comments or tweaks before I brew? I BIAB and I'm only doing a 10l batch as it's a tester

When are you thinking of brewing this? It'll be ready to drink in three weeks or less. Certainly well before Summer!
Or is this just a test run before a full length brew later on?
You might also want to think about dry hopping.

Just brewed something very similar but used WLP002 rather than neutral yeast - worked beautifully with the Centennial.

Re: Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
I did an all EKG ale a few months back using St. Austel Proper Job yeast, MO and Pilsner malt. Best beer I've brewed. Now I'm all out of EKG I'm planning on repeating the beer but with Centennial.
I've picked up a bottle of Marston's EPA which uses Cascade and Syrians, haven't tried it yet though. So may try that combo too.
Edit: here is the EKG Pale; https://homebrewanswers.com/summer-lighting-ekg-recipe/

Going by the profile for Centennial, I reckon it'll be rather delicious! Love golden ales myself.
Is the pilsner malt to make the colour paler, or for flavour? Or just using up open bags?

I was hoping it would lend a lighter flavour, a little less biscuity than a full MO grain bill

Re: Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
Thanks for the input guys, I've decided to split the batch and ferment one with WLP002 and the other with US05, once I pick my favourite yeast I plan to brew it again, split the batch and dry hop half to see if it turns out better

I like Mangrove Jack's M36 Liberty Bell in goldens, gives them a lovely malty flavour. Just to give you more options. lol

Re: Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
A brewer at our club has put that yeast through its paces on a number of styles: Mild, Brown Ale etc. Nice to see another good dried option for English beer styles.wolfenrook wrote:I like Mangrove Jack's M36 Liberty Bell in goldens, gives them a lovely malty flavour. Re: Thoughts on my Golden Ale recipe
I'll be very interested to see how the mouthfeel differs between the wlp002 and us05 batches. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's tired of that hint-of-chalk taste that so often pervades the less flocculant us05 brews, no matter how much you try and crash it out!
Good luck and keep us posted!
