I find it quite insulting that a brewer's yeast is processed like it were a baker's yeast (dried) then offered as an equal alternative, let alone a better option, to a fresh brewer's culture, which are now widely available to home brewers. If it were simply about the convenience of fermenting some cheap alcohol, I'd happily use baker's yeast from the supermarket. That's all it boils down to.
I am quite sure that bakers probably said the same thing at one time... Then they got over themselves.
Maybe one or two 'bakers' decided otherwise

And now it becomes clear - McMullen has some kind of personal vendetta against dried yeast. Well, you can't argue with stupid, so I'll leave it there.

OP - If you're still looking for dried lager yeast, S189 is virtually bulletproof and great for macro style lagers. W34/70 isn't as forgiving, and can easily throw off flavours. Of course you'll never really get the exact effect of brewing on a macro scale at home, even with the exact yeast strain, particularly with lager. The geometry and scale of macro brewery fermenters lead to very different results, particularly with regard to lagers. Not to mention over-gravity brewing and wort streaming.

You will make a good beer no doubt, but chasing exact results on home scale is a losing game. Pick a clean, forgiving lager strain, and focus on process is my advice.
