Newcastle Chilli & Beer Fest - Homebrew Comp Call out

Post by EatNG » Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:25 pm

Hello Brewers,

REQUEST FOR HELP WITH LAUNCHING A NORTH EAST HOMEBREW COMPETITION

July 27-29th 2012 will see the 3rd Chilli & Beer Festival (part of EAT! NewcastleGateshead) take over the Stephenson Works in Newcastle (where Stephenson's Rocket was built). As usual there will be 25 North East beers (+10 or so ciders from outside the region), a market of local chilli product stalls, spicy food stalls (south american, indian and south east asian), live music, a Chilli Out Zone, a Chilli Eating Contest and more....

This year we want to launch a Homebrew Competition for North East homebrewers but, being something of a novice in this subject, want to find someone knowledgeable who can help make sure we do it right.

Any takers? Please get in touch if you think you can help.

Thank you,
Simon Preston
Festival Director

Sounds like a great idea, Simon.

Also sounds like a great opportunity for a North East Jim's outing! :D

Hi Alix101,

Sorry for being so slow to get back to you and thanks for replying. I had imagined it would be BJCP style but as it's part of a much bigger event and time and space will be limited, perhaps narrowing it down to something more informal with categories like you suggest (including "something that goes well with chilli") it the best way to go. Would you be up for meeting up and talking it over with me, help me come to a decision about what it's going to be and then maybe get involved if you still want to?
Thanks again,
Simon

A competition I'm sure would bring the hombrewers out of the sheds and garages, certainly jim would have a better idea of north east home brewers than me and might be able to give an indication of potential numbers you might be able to expect I know there are some very active members on here who are local.

I was kind of hoping they'd show their interest by posting on here. Come on, chaps! :=P

Are you sure I can't persuade you to meet me (for a beer, on me!), just to get your advice and ideas? Simon
