Saltaire Brewery & Northern Craft Brewers Sat 13th April '13
Re: Saltaire Brewery & Northern Craft Brewers Sat 13th April
So I'm have a little trouble rembering who gave me bottles! I've had a great rye amber with Amarillo and simcoe.
Also a pale ale called Mouse1 (or at least it had a yellow label on the cap saying mouse 1)
Also a chocolate impy stout
Any takers?
Cheers chaps

This reminds me, thanks for the brown ale and the India Porter Barney they were both good, not even a hint of fermented orange juice
The brown ale reminded me a bit of Sam Smith's nut brown. I checked out the recipe, surprised it was only mild malt in there. Food for thought...
I remember liking the india porter but can't really remember much else, sorry.

Barney and I have talked about how brown his beer turns out using a 100% mild malt grainbill. Is the mild malt we get over here substantially different? http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brie ... -malt.htmlTheMumbler wrote:...The brown ale reminded me a bit of Sam Smith's nut brown. Ours is only 5.3° L, described as producing a deep golden colour. It's a little darker than Vienna, but significantly lighter than Munich, which I still consider a relatively lightly kilned malt. I haven't tried brewing a single-malt mild yet, but I can't see how this would produce a brown beer by itself! Do you know the Lovibond rating of your Mild Malt over there?

Just checked FAwcetts data sheet and its
IOB colour (515ml) °E.B.C. 7.5

Fascinating. That's still lighter than Munich Malt. I believe you, but Missouri is "The Show Me State" after all. Guess I'll have to try one myself.
What was the final gravity of that beer, by the way?

FG was 1010, no enzymes. Self converting.
A note I made when Milling.
The aroma of the crushed mild ale malt is super, you just know its going to be a great beer. A touch of caramel and chocolate on the nose. Its hard to work with the grains, the aroma makes you want to eat the lot. LOL.
