Latest News Regarding the homebrew festival club

Post by Robsta » Tue Apr 05, 2016 7:19 pm

Some rumours have been flying around about The Home Brew Festival club. We would like to reassure everybody that the ethos and not for profit nature of The Home Brew Festival has not changed and will not change. We are still a festival run by home brewers for home brewers.

Current members of the club will have received emails detailing the changes we are being forced to make, and the proposal to form the club into a Community Interest Company.

Our original intention was to form ourselves as a charity, however our hopes were dashed and our application has been turned down. While a great disappointment to those who put a great deal of work into the application, we must now rethink the way forward.

After giving it a great deal of thought it has been decided by the current committee that the only practical solution to the issue of liability is to apply to become a Community Interest Company. This is a special type of not for profit company that protects the assets of the company from being dispersed for the benefit of individuals, and essentially locks the assets to the company. They can only be dispersed to another asset locked company or charity, should the company be dissolved.

This structure gives you the members, and prospective members the reassurance that we will always maintain our ethos that the festival is for and by home brewers.

Members will notice very little change. The membership fees remain the same, and the membership year remains the same. All that we ask is that you update some of your membership details to include your address and date of birth. This is to comply with national legislation and ensure only those over 18 years become members. We are after all serving alcohol, so we must stay within the law in that respect. Those who are helping to organise the festival haven’t changed.

We will continue to be open and transparent and send regular information to our members, including where appropriate the opportunity to vote any major changes.

I hope this helps to explain the changes we are making. This is not an attempt to profit in any way. It is all being done to benefit the whole community of home brewers that we are, not the few.

All we would ask is that current members please vote using the link in the last newsletter email. Your vote is important.

Even more important – go book your place for this years Festival 12- 12 June 2016 at Market Bosworth.
