I thought i'd have a go at brewing my first stout and since a few on here have brewed this with good results i thought i'd have a go.
It will be intresting to see how i like it as the only stout i've drunk is guiness, oh and a Dark Star imperial stout i had the other weekend.

I'm drinking a pint of this now, cracking stuff. Comes into its own after 3 or 4 weeks in the keg. Good luck with it.

I have made it before, it is indeed a cracking pint. Good luck with the brewday

Re: AG#6 Samual Smith Oatmeal Stout
I have 50l of this at the moment, brewed 2 weeks ago and kegged (2 full size Cornies and a baby Corny) last Monday. It tastes really good already

Re: AG#6 Samual Smith Oatmeal Stout
Quite a smooth brewday really, except i got distracted by the Grand Prix and had a slight boil over.
Here's the pics:
Grain bill:

Starting mash temp:

Finishing Mash Temp:

Batch Sparging with the grain bag:

Over did the sparging slightly:

Very slow runoff from the boiler, the hop strainer came loose and the tap clogged up:

Runoff stopped at this point with still 4 litres or so of Stout i wasnt willing to leave behind so put the sieve to work:

Got the yeast going with some wort ran off from the boiler half way through:

Fermenting Nicely the next morning:

I ended up with a little over 26 litre's with a gravity of 1.051. I was expecting 23 litre's at 1.048 so am pretty pleased with the outcome. Gravity is down to 1.030 already, and of coarse tasted the sample which suprised me as it was very drinkable. I dont normally like the sample's at this point so i have hich hopes. It had quite a smoky aroma too it.

Good stuff.
If that tastes anything like Samuel Smiths I will be adding that to my to brew list, when I get my gear together.
