My new ingredients order didn't arrive in time so I had to pitch some Nottingham instead of US-05. A bit annoyed by that, but hopefully I'll still get everything I'm after from this one...

A load of muslin bags and some of those crazy magnets Hogarth recommended from ebay arrived this morning so I'm all set to dry hop this and my AG01 (kinda punk IPA clone with a shed load of amarillo in the steep and for the forthcoming dry hop) at some point soon.

All in all a cracking day. Now onto planning my next brewday... I quite fancy a pop at a 5am Saint type of beer. Low IBU, dark red and sweet with lots and lots of fresh hop flavour.

Then maybe I'll have a crack at something dark once I have enough stock of hoppy IPA's waiting in the wings.

you wouldn't have noticed the difference in flavour mate. Nottingham in my eyes is just US05 that clear quicker! :D

Good to know. I've still only ever used S-04 and Nottingham so was looking forward to trying US-05

I was the same, itching to use it, and to be honest I wasn't disappointed but I went back to nottignham after I'd got through the packs of 05 I bought. Give it a go though matey, you might find it different to me. The last time I used it was in a clone of St Audsell Tribute and it took 8 weeks to clear, about the same time I had the last pint out of the keg  I have no self control! :D

UPDATE

Just done the first reading from the FV. Down to 1.013 already. Fantastic. OG was 1.070 so coming in at a perfect 7.5%. Added the dry hops yesterday and certainly had a small oily layer on top of the amount I took. Obviously couldn't help but drink all I took. Really fresh and hoppy but cant put my mind on exactly what the taste was. So familiar yet seemed not right to coin it as the usual pine or citrus taste. Whatever it is I like it, and hopefully will be able to find words to describe it sometime soon. My mood is a lot better than its was, as unfortunately my first ever AG brew from a few days earlier seems to have died.

Im guessing a wild yeast contamination as I took a small amount into work and checked it under the microscope and nothing else obvious. It went from 1.060 to 1.030 in a week!! and was kicking off some serious wheat beer / banana and clove smells. After rousing the yeast it is now 1.014 but now smells even worse so Im consigned to chucking it down the drain, If anyone has any advice then let me know but frankly I'm grasping at straws. At least the Simcoe has reignited my desire a bit as after the initial findings on AG01 I was convinced I was jinxed and destined to spoil every brew.

As spirits were hire I decided to go the pub tonight and hence the late hour. Thankfully I was rewarded with my attendance as my local had the Oakham monthly special on cask. Single hop Chinook which was quite frankly superb. I may have to try this next in my single hop series if Simcoe works out as well as its going so far.....
