Just cooked this up, all in the fermenter with WLP001 skimmed from the top of a previous batch. Fermenting at 17C will ramp it up a degree every other day.

Must smell amazing. I bought some citra from the malt miller the other day, also have some nelson sauvin from a while ago. Good bedfello's? What characteristics does NS have? Do you have particularly soft water in Edinburgh and hence have to step up the water treatment for an IPA? Be good to hear how it turns out. Tim

I reckon Citra & Nelson Sauvin would kick ass as a double act... that there sounds a good beer

NS is more pungent, grapey & 'catty', Citra is more laid back and soft, mango & pineapple is what I get. Should be a fruit salad of an IPA. Yeah the smells were immense. I have never been able to homebrew a really good Nelson beer but I've had great ones from Brewdog so I know it's possible.

I chuck in some gypsum, I am more worried about the calcium levels more than anything which is pretty low. Alkalinity is fine for an IPA.

I get a hefty sniff of fresh weed herbal type stuff from Citra.... Weed & Piss Mmmm ha ha ha

Are you going to Dry Hop?

I know what you mean pdtnc, I get that from Aurora and I reckon the two hops are very similar.

Not going to bother dry hopping this one. Although plenty more dry hopped IPAs on the way...

Took off like a rocket with 200ml of the top crop. Hopefully going to take another top crop and pitch it into another IPA on Sunday.

Nice one M! That's going to be a cracker! I was meant to get a brew on today but I've buffered my thumb playing rugby so can't even lift a cup of tea nevermind grains or equipment! Grrrrr

I get mango and a sh1t load of passion fruit from Citra! I reckon a citra, simcoe, NS combo is on the cards for me soon!

I'm just having a bottle of HB wit at the mo but I might be tempted to crack out a pint of all citra in a mo to see how it's getting on!

Quick update on this, it's pretty nice now. As usual I plowed through the first keg thinking it wasn't quite right. But I just tapped the second keg the other day and it tasted how it's supposed to. Not much aroma but a nice Chinook flavour which was pretty harsh when it was young. It has a bitterness which is unlike most hops, it punches you right in the back of the tongue and is pretty refreshing. This is my first real experience with Chinook and I quite like it. Honestly don't know how to describe the flavour.

It was based on the Punk IPA recipe someone brought back from the brewery, and it is pretty identical to punk IPA of a couple of years ago. However it's a much better beer now, less Chinooky and more Nelsony. This doesn't have any of the Nelson flavours really.

I just tried Punk IPA for the first time last weekend. A nice brew but not as intense as I had anticipated. then again my palette may be getting tired from too many hop bomb American ales

It is quite a novelty for us here as we don't get many American style IPAs easily, and what ones we do get cost a fortune, but this one is on every supermarket shelf. It is a nice beer when fresh but I wouldn't imagine it travels well, like quite a few American IPAs don't travel particularly well by the time they get to us.

Yes, understood please don't take my comment as being a disparaging one. I liked the beer, I think that my expectations were out of proportion perhaps.
