IN THE SHED 16TH MAY 2011 ( MIA-SMIFF )

Post by GARYSMIFF » Mon May 16, 2011 2:45 pm

Hello,
Over the weekend we lost a member of the family to old age, her name was Mia, she was a black short hair rescue cat who as we understand was 19+ years old so not a bad innings, so I will brew a dark beer in her memory.

NB: when I say she was a rescue cat I do not mean that she would sit and wait for a telephone to ring and then scramble the helicopter and go off and rescue people in mountains, she just needed a good home and some love, and that she got.

to the brew:

3.5kg Golden Promise Malt
500gms Oat Malt
200gms Roasted Barley
150gms Chocolate Malt
200gms Crystal Malt

Hops
25gms Bramling X @ 60
10gms Bramling X @ FO
Yeast=SO4
Rims @ 40º-55º-68º

23lts of 1044 in the FV :)

RIP Mia

Maww!
Our 12 year old Siamese should rattle the amount of pills we have to give him, still ticking 19 or so months after he was given days / weeks / months if we were lucky... Clever cat :)

Brew looks good :)

On Friday my Father and I had a small tester and after only 5 days in the FV its very nice, just a hint of hedgerow going on with a touch of dark chocolate the mouthfeel is so so soft and silky, the mouthfeel is something I notice as our water is very hard "Dan Saff" and this slips down very well.

I think that i will give this another go with some movement on the roasted barley as I would have liked to have an obvious back of the throat "kaak" taste that a Very Famous Dublin stout has.

NB: Kaak is a sound I used to explain the back of the throat taste/feel of a Guinness. I am not sure if you know what I am on about :?

Brew is now in a Cornie and is Cool dark and silky.
Look:
Head is average and off-white, Lacing is fair
Body is clear as can be and colour is Ruby/Black
Smell:
Malt aroma is a light Chocolate Coffee
Hop aroma is Light perfume
yeast aroma is hard to pick out but a tar exists
Taste:
Medium Body
Creamy texture
average Carbonation
Finish might be metallic
Flavor is sweet and long lasting

not the best pic but after all that testing thats all your getting, and yes its cold :D

Looks good. Should have had some Nelson Sauvin in the mix for the 'Cat Piss' effect :)
