English IPA
English IPA
Tomorrow I will be brewing an English hopped IPA as I have loads of hops and haven't used English ones in ages. The northern craft brewers are also having a English IPA competition at the March meeting at the brewery. Coincidence???? maybe not!
I've got a starter of the WLP037 yorkshire yeast on the go so will be using that!
the recipe will be using the following:
Pale ale malt
Munich
Wheat
Amber
Crystal
Hops!
WLp037
Pics and further nonsense tomorrow!
LB out!

Re: English IPA
that a pretty ambiguous recipe
Weird though, I have 1% Amber in my all fuggle idea, just to try add a little bit of biscuitiness without going over the top. It was to be one of my cask's but I might just brew it anyway and bottle.

Re: English IPA
I'll post the full recipe Nearer or after the competition! I suppose I could be a little less vague on the hope!............they'll be English varieties!
That's pretty much my thinking for he amber. Ill be using a bit more than 1% though!

btw, whats a good representation of an english ipa? I mean most pubs u go into serves GK IPA which is a bad rep. of an ipa n beer altogether!!!
my guess
Pale ale malt 75%
Munich 5-8%
Wheat 3-5%
Amber 3-5%
Crystal 5-8%
Any prize?

Ooooooo mystery grains!
Salt addition
Mash temp spot on!
More to follow!
Re: English IPA
Well, this might have turned out a bit darker that an IPA should be so it might not end up being my entry! We'll see how it turns out but I might re-brew this next week with the yeast cake from this beer and lighten it u a bit!
some hops!
some other hops!
hops going in!
The pre-boil SG sample! hmmmm maybe too much crystal/amber?
I don't know what it is but every time I use Fawcetts british munich in a brew it ALWAYS turns out darker than BeerAlchemy expects it to be! This was meant to come out at 9.4SRM! No where near!

Re: English IPA
Might be OK, Pale is not that pale when the ABV goes up.
Re: English IPA
Looks ok to me, certainly drank pale ales that colour, but I've no idea about competitions or style guidelines.
Re: English IPA
Spud! your damn right! they are guidelines! If its good beer then i'll enter it! cheersSpud395 wrote:Looks ok to me, certainly drank pale ales that colour, but I've no idea about competitions or style guidelines.
