It looks lie this hasn't turned out as dark as I thought it was! Below is a pic of the OG hydro sample left over night

I stil think it's darker than the 9.4srm that was oredicted but well inside IPA territory! It's still bubbling away happily every few seconds with a decent krausen on top. Will probably take a sample on Sunday.

Hi LB

I did my IPA for the NCB back in Dec...
I like the beer, but not sure it will quite cut it in the comp...But I will bring along some bottles any way...
I think it needs more hop aroma...

I will re brew and move the 15min hops to 10 and double the flame out hops....

The stats for my IPA
OG 1059
Ibu 60
Colour 16ebc
Abv6.1%
Hops are English Challenger and first gold

Malt bill and attenuation and ferment were where I wanted them but it just lacked the hop aroma I hoped for
First attempt has good colour with orange tint andnicewhite Lacey head.
Nice juicy malt balanced by an assertive bitterness with marmaladey english hops and more hops anda dry finish
really nice easy drinker for the gravity and bitterness but I feelitwould lose out examples with lots of late/dry hopping

Remember LB that white shield is in the region of 22-24 EBC
So don't be down on it just because it turned out darker than you thought...
I will be bringing bottles of both brews for sampling!
:D

cheers guy! sounds good man! I re brewed mine today. Cut out the crystal, halved the munich and amber and subbed in some pilsner for paleness. Turned out much lighter and much closer to the colour I was after.

I jigged my hops around a bit as well. It's fermenting away already with the slurry from the last batch. I'm going to enter this one but bring bottles of both along for tasting! :D

Hey sounds good!

I've since had some very favourable "reviews" from people whose opinion I value.
However I still plan to re brew this, as I think I can improve on it...

Looking forward to some feedback at the meet in march as well as sampling afew beers and catching up...
Cheers!

This is the hydro sample of the re brewed beer. Much happier with the colour

the fermentation has settled down now so I think it'll be near FG. Going to take a sample today and find out! :D might have a cheeky taste too! :D

Hi LB that does look a good colour for an IPA :)

I am doing my re brew on Monday...

Once my last one was almost at fg I followed a schedule suggested by PDTNC 17 then 13c over a few days
Gave me a nice clean beer that cleared well once bottled.

Let us know how this turns out!

Just found out through an email from Shane (unclepumble) that this beer (the original not te re-brew) came in 7th place highly commended (out of 35 or 37? can't remember exactly!) in Satirdays NCB IPA competition at Saltaire brewery! Pleased as punch!

I didn't enter the re-brew version as I managed to oxidise the crap out of it by racking and dry hopping it while very drunk! Oooops! Well we live and learn! :D
