Sipping a pint this very minute...

There's no doubt that I'm getting the chocolate at 150g. The beer tastes chocolately - not of chocolate if that makes sense. This is what I was after. However, I love the chocolate flavour so much now I want more of it! I'd up it to 250g, yes.

I swear the coffee has mellowed slightly but I have to be imagining things.

I think I'm falling in love with it...

Ok... this is weird. I'm actually really happy with the coffee flavour today. Perhaps I'm getting used to it or maybe the harshness is actually subsiding...

Hi, I appreciate this is quite an old thread now but I'm really looking to brew a coffee porter, and this looks like a good brew. Have you done it again? Is there any reason the coffee and chocolate could not both go into the vodka? I see that it's 28 L which maybe a challenge in my Braumeister but I can probably shorten it up a bit. Thank you Matt

Hey Matt,

As chance would have it, I brewed this last month. This time, I added the coffee and cacao to vodka. Roasted my own coffee beans this time, too.

Did you brew it? I brewed 14L BIAB this time. t's tasting good.

Thank you that's very helpful. I'm going to go with 250g of cacao beans and put that with the coffee beans in the vodka. I've bought the grain and hops so it will be brewed in a few weeks when I've racked the brew I am doing tomorrow. I'm quite excited about this one. Thanks again

Pleasure! Next time I brew it, I'll replace half of the crystal with dark crystal. Feel that it needs just a touch more depth.

Keep me posted!

Beans are all here and going into the vodka. Your efficiency is very high so I think I might shorten it up to 25L to ensure I've got enough sugars to maintain the recipe. Please can I just check though you are on a 90min boil? Thank you

Sorry for late reply. Busy with work/baby.

I boil for around 45 - 50 mins these days.

I just corny kegged this today. First time using a corny. Fingers crossed!

I brewed this as a Christmas brew so haven't touched it until now. I'm really pleased with it, thank you for the recipe. The coffee is quite heavy, I might perhaps take it down a notch, but I did shorten it up to 25L and use the same volumes so that probably is why it is a bit stronger. The coffee gives way to the wonderful chocolate finish. Most of mine is in a corny, I always do about 7 bottles too - it's a nice control method in case of infection (had massive problems with this before). Really appreciate your help. Merry Christmas
