Safbrew S-33 @20C
It's been a while since my last AG brew (August), and I was going to brew an IPA as my 5th AG, but now we are getting into winter, a Porter seemed more appropriate.
I brewed over 2 days again with this one, mashed and batched sparged on the Saturday night, and then got up early (6am) on the Sunday for the boil/cool and clean up. As it was very cold outside, I decided to collect 1L more wort because I figured that the evaporation rate would be higher than previous brews.
I was aiming for 23L @1.050, but ended up with 24.5L @1.048. As well as obviously over collecting wort, I also hadn't figured the relatively small amount of hops into my calculations, so didn't loose as much wort to the hops.
After suffering a leaking IC on AG#4, I made some modifications to it by soldering a piece of copper to the inlet and outet pipes which has taken my hose connections up and out of the boiler. I also used some self amalgamating tape to sure up the hose connections too.
Grain Bill

Weighing out grain is thirsty work!

Let's do the mash, let's do the monster..........

These Nugget hops were very sticky and smelt really fruity.

Collecting the first batch sparge.

Never skimp on heating power, my 4.8KW setup brought the 31L of wort up to the boil without breaking a sweat.

No leaks from my modded IC!

Who doesn't love self amalgamating tape.

Boiling like a MOFO.

Always a pleasing sight (to me anyway).

The soon to be troublesome S-33.

It's been stuck at 1.020 since day 6, so I gave it a rouse on day 11 and await the results. .........
