A Summer Blonde

Post by Clibit » Wed May 04, 2016 3:06 pm

I brewed this on 22 April and I've just put it in a plastic barrel. I'll be doing Jim's Summer Quaffer at the end of May but decided to chuck some spare ingredients into a sort of partial mash 21 litre affair to give me and my offspring something to quaff from a barrel before that one is ready. I mashed the grains in a 15 litre stockpot, boiled the wort with the hops, and added this to the FV with cold water, DME and the dextrose. Topped up to 21 litres. It's still a bit cloudy, as is my earlier brew made with Brewlab Somerset 1, but it tasted good already - tasty yeast, but tough to clear. Probably needs gelatin. This wasn't a lot of work, took about 3 hours and should go down well, won't last long I reckon. It's a nice, soft blonde ale, light and fruity, with nice hop flavour and a bite from the IBUs. I only had 360g DME so had to use 250g dextrose, didn't plan to.

Really enjoying this beer. A little cloudy still but nicely conditioned, bitterness spot on, lovely hop combo. Nice fruitiness from the yeast. Not bad at all for a user upper of a recipe with old hops! I've always had my doubts about Fuggles but it works great in this, with the other hops and the yeast.
