6X

Post by Troutman47 » Tue May 10, 2016 9:04 am

I bought a couple of cans of 6X the other night and realised I'd forgotten how much I love this beer!

Haven't seen it in pubs round here for what must be years so as I'm off work I thought I'd brew one up using GW's recipe from BYOBRA and today's the day!

Brewlength 25lts

MO 4.389k
Crystal 189g
Black malt 38g
Sugar 141g

Mash at 67C for 60mins

Fuggles 4.5%AA all of boil 50g
Holdings 5.5%AA at flame out 9.75g

90 min boil

Nottingham yeast
OG 1.040

How did this turn out? I don't think I've ever had the real thing, but I've been eyeing the recipe in BYOBRA. Do you think subbing invert sugar for the cane sugar and black malt would get closer to the real thing?

Hi KB,

This has turned out quite well.

It didn't ferment all the way down which I'm sure is completely my fault as I just sprinkled the yeast on top the wort and left it! Didn't even stir it in!

The flavour has improved over the last couple of weeks and I'd say was close to the real thing.

I was thinking about using muscavado sugar instead of cane sugar next time. That might push the flavour towards the real thing but all in all it cleared well and is a nice beer to drink.

Worth doing!

Cheers
