I brewed this on Sunday. three gallons, O G 1.049, IBUs 30, SRM 11ish
4 pounds organic vienna malt
1 pound organic munich malt
1 pound organic 2-row malt
1 ounce organic roast barley cold steeped in a cup of distilled water, added to last five minutes of boil
.75 ounce organic tradition @ 6.8% for 45 minutes
pinch irish moss for 15 minutes
1/8 teaspoon nutrient for 10 minutes
.25 ounce organic tradition @ 6.8% for 9 minutes
2 packs S-34/70 sprinkled on top
I pitched the yeast at 3pm and Monday morning there was a small amount of foam on top and the airlock was burping every 25 seconds.
This morning the foam is 1/4 inch thick and the airlock is burping every 7-8 seconds.

Re: organic vienna
Hi Rookie,
Looks nice. I presume the roast barley is just for colour.
Cheers,

You presume correctly.charliemartin wrote:Hi Rookie,

I ordered a pound of the roast barley with the other organic ingredients instead of caraffa because I have a non-organic imperial stout on my short list to brew and will use the remainder in it. An ounce cold steeped will impart the color I want without any roasty/stouty flavor.
