#AG 22# Irish stout

Post by sbond10 » Sat Sep 02, 2017 10:16 am

Well sadly my gear I wanted didn't turn up in time for today's brew day to make it a hybrid 2 vessel system so standard biab jobbie

Grain
3000 concerto
100. Chocolate
283 roast barley
500 flaked barley
83 crystal 245

Hops
40g target pellets 90 mins
25 g styla flower 15 min

Misc
400 raw cane sugar (bollingtons)

Yeast cml real ale
Stats
23 litre into fv
68 mash temp
70% brewhouse efficiency
4% abv ish

So far going well mash out will be 10 40. I'll be draining it before the boil as I'd like to know how much I've got going into the boil as my measurements seem to suggest I magically gain two litres of water. This is important to me as when I finally do get my mash tun I'll need to more precise

Well brew day was fairly uneventful almost had a boil over in a hundred litre pan that took some doing.
Well it appears I got 1038 at 25 litres so slightly under over on my numbers.
But I also got to find out more numbers with my system after mash I had around 33 litres and collected 25 litres and left behind 2 litres in the kettle so these might help me tune things better

Well bottled today stopped at 1.012 so around 3.5% bit low on the gravity front. So decided to create a whole new style a dry Irish mild stout.
Reckon the high mash temp and the extra volume into the fv caused the low gravity
