Almost a Rye IPA

Post by rui » Tue Sep 26, 2017 9:21 am

Good morniing all!!! Saturday i had a busy day, i was brewwing an IPA and also catching my grapes and making wine!!
The IPA has some rye that was already a bit old and i saw a window of oportunity to use it up!!

here's the recipe:

Rye IPA
American IPA

Recipe Specs
----------------
Batch Size (L): 17.0
Total Grain (kg): 4.870
Total Hops (g): 49.21
Original Gravity (OG): 1.058 (°P): 14.3
Final Gravity (FG): 1.011 (°P): 2.8
Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 6.15 %
Colour (SRM): 7.5 (EBC): 14.7
Bitterness (IBU): 46.1 (Average)
Brewhouse Efficiency (%): 67
Boil Time (Minutes): 75

Grain Bill
----------------
3.950 kg Pilsner (81.11%)
0.300 kg Rye Malt (6.16%)
0.240 kg Vienna (4.93%)
0.210 kg Crystal 60 (4.31%)
0.110 kg Carapils (Dextrine) (2.26%)
0.060 kg Acidulated Malt (1.23%)

Hop Bill
----------------
10 g summit Pellet (16.2% Alpha) @ 75 Minutes (Boil) (06 g/L)

45 g Chinook Pellet (11.4% Alpha) @ 8 Minutes (Boil) (2.6 g/L)

Misc Bill
----------------

Single step Infusion at 67°C for 75 Minutes.
Fermented at 20°C with Safale US-05

From the original recipe that I planned, I made some tweakings, instead of using magnum for bitering i used summit and only one adition of chinook!!
Because i was also making my wine at the same time, wasnt easy to control everything...sooooo.....i forgot to heat my sparging water.... not a big problem, i know #-o but the show must go on......so I washed the grains, in the end i got all my numbers less the OG, 2 points lower than i wanted....i think was from the Rye being to old and also i wasnt milling thin enough alf the grains.
In the end i got 17 liters of beer and 350L of rosé wine.

Didnt had much time for fotos:
