Brewmate extract recipe calculation confusion

Maybe its Sunday morning foggy brain syndrome but I am trying to formulate a recipe in Brewmate which uses dried malt extract, with a fixed OG, and when I add a small amount of steeping grain the required weight of extract increases, quite a bit.

How can this be?! Surely adding some crystal can't reduce the sugars provided by a fixed amount of DME in a fixed batch size? I have changed the recipe type setting to Extract.

Can someone enlighten me, or is Brewmate not geared up for this?
