Trying it again then? I'm just about good to give it a go myself...

I'd rather do 10l extract than 20l kit. Personal preference.

I'll look forward to it, this weekend I'll be testing my chiller, cutting hose to length and picking up some extract, hopefully to brew a week on Sunday...

I dont suppose you could post the instructions online, could you? It would be good to see to compare against how I have been doing my extract brews

Allan,

I've just tried the 80 shillin recipe on here http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brew ... tract-kits. If you go into the additional information tab on each beer it gives you a pdf file with ingredients and instructions on what to do. Just need to convert measurements and you're sorted.

I have been considering trying extract but I'm thinking how much better could it be?
I'm very happy with the results I'm getting from kits (I think I just like the thought of getting some new gear!)

MB,
Bottled this on 15th Feb. So it`s only had 2 weeks warm, 2 weeks cold.
Tried a bottle last night, as you do!
It`s OK, not overly impressed. Pours ok, small head, great colour.
No pics yet because it is not BLM yet!
Will report back in 1 Week.

I went from kit straight to all grain so skipped extract. After a house move I didn't have time for all grain and didn't want to do any kits so I tried extract and found it perfect for a 2 hour window all in... which as far as my wife was concerned was 'lightening fast' :)

Yup. I'm a born again Extract-or! For me the end result of an extract based brew far far exceeds kit results- by the time the FV is cleaned and sanitised etc the additional investment in time of an extract over a kit isn't "that" much and it's way nicer. All Grain is another level but it also provides more opportunities to F up. When I drink a kit I don't get the same warm fuzzy "I made this" that I do with an extract or AG brew. But with a kid (assistant brewer) in tow the extract option does have certain advantages......

It's amazing if you get an extract brew into 2 hours- can tell you don't brew in the shed at ambient temperatures!!! Despite my boil kettle insulating mat insulation it still took me 4 hours the last brew (although about half an hour was lost pissing around with the stupid IC outlet pump which failed).

For some reason I thought I'd get better throughput if the cold water just had to run down the garden in a hose down the shed and then into a resevoir (bucket) and I pumped it back up the drain next to the house. Turns out the various pumps I've tried either don't like near boiling water (standard pump) or need a fair head of pressure (central heating pump). So now I'm going old school- one hose down to the shed, one hose back up again. KISS............
