TT Boltmaker 1st attempt

Post by brewt » Sun May 07, 2017 9:41 pm

This morning I had my first attempt at an extract brew, after making kits for 2 years.
It's based on Timothy Taylors Boltmaker:

10 Litres

1kg Light DME
100g Crystal 140
20g EKG 60mins
15g Fuggles 10mins
Safale S04 yeast

Kitchen smelled great and everything went to plan, OG 10 brix.
Can't wait to see the end result, this could be the end of kits for me!

Bottled yesterday. ABV 3.8% which is spot on as per Brewers Friend recipe builder.
Can't wait for the next 2 weeks to pass.....

Sounds good. I'm on my 6th attempt at TT Landlord and still trying to get it right!

Only another 3 weeks to go before you can crack a bottle

Well, its been in the bottles for a week so I couldn't resist a cheeky sample! I made 19 and a half bottles, so the half bottle was crying out to be tasted!
Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted. No real head (too early) but nice and clear with plenty of hop flavour.
I expected it to be a bit darker but maybe the crystal malt I bought from my local HBS wasn't as dark as I had hoped.
Absolutely no "homebrew twang", so it looks like this could be me saying goodbye to kits.
Next up I will try a lager, made with kolsch yeast. :)

....and that's how it starts.

Too many beers, too little time!
