Bit of a bummer. Always risky with the pots in the post. For what it's worth I got a 33L pot, the ones Powell Brewing and Homebrew Builder sell. Brilliant pots for BIAB.

I was looking at theres the other day I would like a 40 or 50 lt pot

I started with a 20L on the hob then quickly moved to the 33L. After 2 brews on the hob I installed a 2.4kw element. I now brew outside. I brew 20L batches and with the 33L pot I have to sparge with about 4 to 5L but I've got it down to a tee these days. Haven't got a tap on the boiler either. I syphon into the FV. If I were you I wouldn't skimp on a pot and get a good un from one of those sites. Only thing I would possibly do different is get the 50L so I wouldn't have to sparge but it don't bother me that much.

Only done 15 brews so far - the latest being a Porter yesterday, and no problems.

I did increase my usual mash volume to around 22L - effectively as much liquid in the pan as I could with the grain in place. I then sparged around 10L - replacing the volume of the grain bag when removed and then a top up later on. Bit of excitement keeping the froth in check as we approached boil and adding the 1st hops but if you keep stirring until the boil is well underway (around 3-4- minutes) it soon settles back into the liquid.

I've more wort than usual as a result and did think the post-boil gravity would be lower than usual. However, and despite the fact this is an exact repeat of a recipe I did a month or so ago, the post boil has come out at 1064 (yes I know - over the top as usual) compared to 1056 last time despite both being from a 1046 pre-boil reading. Don't know why but not complaining. I did hold a sample back for both pre and post boil and doubled checked my readings when both at room temperature just in case I read at different temperatures but it confirmed my initial readings as sound.

A simple bitter: 90/10 Maris otter/crystal, bittered to 30-40 IBU using Challenger and Fuggles.
You can adjust the ratio of crystal and substitute hops but you'll end up with something easy to drink.

just one more thing to ask which may sound a bit stupid to ask
it say add hop at 60 45 15 10 min
am I right do you leave the hops in till the boil have finished or do you take out
say the 60 min ones when you add the 45 min ones or leave them all in till the end
