How much grain can I mash?

Post by JohnRB » Thu Apr 06, 2017 12:53 pm

I've a 19l stock pot which is used for mashing and sparging. Is there a simple way to calculate the maximum weight of grain I can put in the bag? I'm planning a strong stout to yield, after liquoring, back 20l in the fermenter.

Thanks in advance,

John

Depends on your mash thickness . Standard is 2.5l per kg (I think?), so you could almost do 6kg of grain, assuming you have no dead space

You could of course do a bit thicker mash and batch sparge one more time
