Done the right thing?

Post by Manngold » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:53 pm

In an effort to use time more effectively I decided to mash with 25 l of water, then as soon was mash was over dumped 10l of boiling (rolling boil) water into the kettle. I am using a chill cube, so haven't been able to take a gravity reading. How much would it have affected the og?

If required, it was the Dennis King Galaxy Delight from Malt Miller. Done this before, was immense!

Thanks all

Oh, and just to add it cut my brew day down to four hours and 10 minutes!

25/35 = 70% of what you could have extracted using 35 litres (BIAB/pure no sparge method). Maybe closer to 60% of what a batch sparge/BIAB with a few litres held back for a "rinse".

That's just based on thinking about saturated solutions.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Thanks Vacant. I took a gravity reading this morning and it is 1060, I was aiming for 1050...
