Keith Thomas book “Home Brew: A Guide to Brewing Beer”

One of the founders of Brewlab a brewer connected to Vaux, Shepherd Neame, Wadworth and Thwaites breweries and another Brewlab connected guy have written a book on homebrewing.

I might have to pick this up as it should hopefully be an interesting read.

It's tempting, but relatively short at 160 pages and I already have a fair number of brewing books (which I've read to varying degrees). From the contents page it seems to go into more depth about the process than Hughes, and is lighter on recipes. The authors are clearly impressive.

No idea about that. It has a nice selection of recipes in it, whether they are his recipes is, I guess, an open question! It's a bit light on the process side of things. I realise you don't want to get too bogged down in details when you start brewing, but Wheeler's recipe books seem to squeeze in a bit more detail that I think a beginner would want to know. The second Hughes edition, which I've looked at but don't own, would have benefitted from a bit more of an extensive update as well (for example, loads more dried yeasts were available when the second edition was published, which could have been suggested for some of the beers). Still, it is popular and people seem to like the recipes (wherever they come from!).

I know I'm going to end up buying this new brewlabs book! I can't help myself!

I think once you have a few, you are just looking for a nugget of info and or staying up to date..
