King Keg s30 barrel

Post by mrcpea » Thu Mar 13, 2014 7:21 pm

Hi,
After around 8 pints of Muntons midas touch drawn from my barrel, I've found I need to carbonate the beer with a co2 cylinder. Is this about average or could my barrel have a small leak? I originally primed with around 55g of castor sugar (Is this enough?)& left to condition 4 weeks, of which 1 of these weeks was at around 22 degrees, the other 3 in the garage. The beer tastes lovely.
I did stick some Vaseline on both the tap and top seals,
Also, how much gas should I re prime with? I did read that 1 second bursts of gas should be used

Thanks

Richard.

How soon were the pints drank? Ie did you drink them all in a couple of nights?
Cheers and gone,

Hi Mossa,
Thanks for your reply.
I'd say over about 5 days.

Cheers

How cold is it in your garage? If the temperature is in single C's, the Co2 will be absored into the beer. It's best to store a barrel around the 12c - 14c region.

Many thanks HH.
I assume that at night the temperature drops very low in there. I will obtain some thick foam insulation that's sitting around at work doing nothing and make a cover out of that to try and raise the temp.
Really, The only other place we have is the kitchen, just above the wine rack. I recon its around 17-18 degrees in there & guess that's a bit warm?

Cheers

Many thanks for the info.
Barrel is great now thanks due to the temperature rise. I also put some bubble wrap around it. It sits at around 14' at the moment
