a quick question.
If it's flushed with Co2 and obviously not drunk how long would Stout keep in a brown plastic pressure barrel?
Thanks. aamcle

Re: Plastic Pressure barrels - beer life?
Corrr does nobody here use plastic?
I have 3 all with two inch necks, I think they seal better than the 4 inch types, one is a full size barrel that I hardly ever use, it was given to me, and 2 half size.
The smaller barrels are fine now the year is getting colder, half a batch in bottles and half in a barrel, the caps are modified to let me add Co2 so I can avoid the dreaded glug.
I had been hoping to bulk age a RIS in the big plastic barrel for 2 or 3 months prior to bottling but it's plastic so ...

As long as it is still in condition, i.e. no leaks, then it should be fine for about 6 months.
Mine never used to last that long, but theory is good.

Is that because they went off, oooooor because you drank them?Hairybiker wrote:As long as it is still in condition, i.e. no leaks, then it should be fine for about 6 months.

Re: Plastic Pressure barrels - beer life?
From memory, between a few to several months - depending on how strong the stout is. Assuming the barrel is filled to around its nominal capacity and there is live yeast in there - if its only part full or if the beer is very bright then it won't keep for anything like as long.
