Scales for weighing Gas bottles

Post by Rhodesy » Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:25 pm

Does anyone have any reasonably priced suggestions for a set of scales to weigh co2/propane bottles? I currently use a 6kg bottle of co2 for carbonating, dispensing, purging etc and propane for my pizza oven. The c02 regulator is fine when the bottle is at full pressure but now I am 9 months and many kegs in it is starting to drop which I believe is then less reliable not to mention my garage temp will drop as the cold weather kicks in. My propane bottle I dont have the luxury of a gauge so its mostly guess work.

If anyone can recommend some decent scales at a decent price I would be much obliged

Luggage hang balances should manage upto 25-30kg, and you should be able to pick one up for about a fiver

Just read that the bottle pressure is starting to drop.. An exchange is therefore imminent, in my limited experience, you have a week or perhaps 2 depending on what you have planned before your needing a new bottle..

Yeah I suspect that. I have a backup cylinder with some though not much in it which will give me time to replace, I can get same day delivery and exchange thankfully so will arrange soon.

I take it that its common so show as a high pressure reading which hardly budges save the odd temperature swing but then once it drops then its practically empty?

Yes, once it's down to 0 you've only got a few days. That's my experience.
