Yeast Horror Stories

Post by Hoppkins » Tue Dec 19, 2006 11:16 am

2 questions:

Will the yeast which comes with a Brupack kit be of a decent quality? Would "Youngs" yeast purchased seperatly be better? Would it be worth buying some incase?

Is it worth making one of these "Starters" ive read about for a kit brew. Whats the easiest way to make one?

Thanks

With beer brewing I think it's worth keeping things simple as long as you get good results.

The easiest is just use the stuff you have. (It'll be fine)
Next thing you could do is have a spare just in case (Always a good option)
Making a starter is good, it takes more planning and work. You may get better beer but I'm not sure you could taste the difference if you don't. There's also lots theories on why you should.

What I always do is make sure the yeast is happy before I pitch it.
I rehydrate with preboiled cooled water. Feed the yeast with a little sugar and put it to one side in a warm place why I brew.
This is the result ready for pitching.
