ELC Wherry.....!

Post by WalesAles » Fri Jul 04, 2014 3:24 pm

Hello Boys and Girls,
As a Founder Member of the ELC I get bored easily and lazy! :D
I have a proposition to you all to decide my Wherry Brew for Sunday.
Gear available......
1 Wherry Kit
1Kg Med Spraymalt
400Gr Amber Malt
250Gr Crystal Malt
Hops......
Summit 100Gr
Chinook 100Gr
Bramling X 100Gr
Cascade 200Gr
Ahtanum 50Gr
Sylva 50Gr
Topaz 50Gr
Somebody out there must know a good Brew recipe with all this gear! :D :D
So, Come on Down! Get these recipes in quick because if I am steeping Malts they`ve got to go in Saturday!
Nobody is allowed to say `Make the Wherry on its` own` because that is boring and we are at the cutting edge of Kit Brewing Here! :D :D =D> =D>
Looking forward to your replies, if any!

How about an English ESB?

23L Brewlength
Estimated OG 1.056
1 x Wherry Kit
1kg of Medium Spraymalt
200g of Amber Malt
25g of Bramling X boiled for 10mins
25g of Bramling X steeped for 30mins

Not sure if the kit yeast would be enough on it's own though?

Cheers

MB,
Why do you think the Yeast might struggle?
I`ve got one pack of Coopers Cerveza Yeast and two packs of Danstar Munich Yeast. Shall I throw one of those in as well?
Remember, this is Cutting Edge Brewing! The Boundaries are beyond the Horizon! :D :D
Bloody Hell Mun! This ELC thing is Great! I can do what I want and people will say `Told you`! :D
Great that you mentioned ESB, MorleyHomeBrew is doing a Bottle swap / contest for September only for ESB!

The Wherry yeast is only 6g IIRC, so I would use the Coopers 7g sachet too if I were you.

I'm no yeast expert, but as the gravity of a brew increases, then so should the amount of yeast sells if full attenuation is to be achieved.

What recipe are you going to brew then, the suspense is killing me

Cheers

I think naming a beer after the Early Learning Centre is a bit irresponsible personally. Also if you're a founding member why haven't you got a nice shiny AG set up.

Couldn`t wait! OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Drinking) kicked in so I had to try a Small Taste bottle!
12 days after bottling, 1 Hour in the Fridge.
Very Clear Beer, Beautiful Reddy Brown Colour, Great Hoppy Aroma, And Malty, Malty, Very, Very Malty! But STRONG on the Alcohol! 7.1%.
I`ll never get to double figures drinking this stuff! :D #-o
All goes in the Beer Fridge Wednesday and WILL be left alone for 2 weeks! Honest! :D [-X [-X

A few early testers are always good fun!

I had a couple of Wherries last night. They are malty. Not sure if it's a bit too malty. At least it's not insipid like the commercially produced bottled stuff!
