Geordie Winter Warmer

Post by cwrw gwent » Fri Sep 29, 2017 10:01 am

I was given a Geordie Winter Warmer kit for my birthday at the end of January and decided to postpone brewing until this autumn. The blurb on the can says: "very smooth well hopped dark ale with a rich flavour and full head." Has anyone else made this kit and just how rich is the flavour? I'm hoping to avoid the sort of ale that tastes like Christmas pudding in liquid form. I have told the person who gave me the kit that they may receive the 40 pints of ale in return if I'm not keen.

I bottled the beer from this kit on November 5th and I'm delighted to say it's turned out really well. It's a deep red colour and unlike many commercial winter warmers it doesn't taste of liquorice, cinnamon or molasses. If anything, it's like a strongly favoured mild. I'd brew this again.
