Just had a go at this and it works. I tried two ways first with a stiffish paste which did not work too well. Next with a more liquid paste which did work well. So it would seem that the olive oil is the active ingredient and the bicarb is an agent to hold it in place. In both cases it was necessary to use hot water to wash the bottle. Next time I have a bottle to clean I will try neat olive oil.

How did someone ever find this out .... let’s mix olive oil and bicarbonate to see if I can take labels off with it . Great idea and thanks for sharing

If all else fails I use T-Cut. Stinks a bit and needs washed off afterwards, but it will remove any kind of adhesive.
