This is my regular kit, made with 50/50 sugar and Spraymalt. It makes a flavoursome session ale at about 3.8/4.0%. Would be interested to know how you get on. I'm also happy with the Geordie Bitter and Geordie Mild, but less so with the Scottish Export and I haven't bothered with the lager kit for many years.

Add hops. This sort of kit is late hop deficient. It'll make a big difference.

Do any of you kit lads treat water with 1/2 a campden tablet to remove chlorine?

No - our water comes from the Black Mountains and is moderately soft without any trace of chemical. Have never had any unpleasant aftertaste.

Draw 15 litres or so from the hot water tap and let it cool overnight, other water boiled to rinse extract from tin - campden tablets not used.

My acquaintances congratulate me on the beer I make from kits... Could be because they are drinking free beer!

Not brewed a kit for 20+ years, I cut my brewing teeth on Tom Caxtons lager kits in the 80's....
I hear some of the higher end brews nowadays are quite good, especially if used alongside DME instead of white sugar...

A guy on here "WalesAles" does very good kit stouts..
