Hi All
If my kit states to add ikgf of brewing sugar , will adding a kilo of dme have the same effect or do I still need the sugar

The dme will very much improve your beer over using sugar.
I'm just here for the beer.

I usually use DME in place of half or all the sugar.
I also brew 40pint kits to 36 pints - more body, slightly higher ABV

Agreed.
Also consider brewing sugar can be raplaced by granulated. It is there mainly for alcohol production not flavour.
Tate & Lyle (cane) is preferable to beet sugar.
