20 L
Re: 20 L
I can't advise yet as my BM20 is still on order but if you do decide to buy I can recommend www.HomeBrewShop.be . Based in Belgium you will get a great price and delivery is less than a tenner. A couple of us on here have bought from there and saved £200. TransferWise is a great way to pay too avoiding most of the currency exchange fees.

Re: 20 L
From memory for a 1050 ish brew it was approx. 23l (note from memory), the malt tube can get rather full. (I'm sure someone will correct me)
Depending on your financial situation though a 50BM can be bought with the smaller 25l tube so you would get more versatility from the purchase.

i have various brew books and all the recipes are aimed at 23ltr so thats always been my aim and i have never brewed over that.does any1 have this set in equipment in beer smith? And i could lower my batches

The new 50 litre one certainly doesn't appear to need a commando socket because it comes with a standard European schuko plug.
The BM extras are incredibly extortionate. I bought the short malt pipe because I usually brew with my brother and would split 50 litres but now have the option for a half batch if I'm brewing on my own. I also bought the stainless hood because I want to get a good boil. I'm going to make my own jacket.
The hop filter situation is a big oversight. Speidel need something better than the hop screen they're selling. Therefore it needs a DIY solution or an aftermarket hop spider.

Hi have a 50l and use a 16A to 13A adapter. The BM is just within the 13A limit but make sure all the plug connections are really good as I've had one get s bit hot.sbond10 wrote:Plus doesn't the 50 litre need a 16 amp commando socket ( the one that look like your off camping ? )
Re: 20 L
I go for 23L so around 2cm down from the top marking on the rod.
Thinking about it, 85% is a bit high maybe my maths is slightly out but 80% is definitely achievable. I have been tempted to go for overnight mashes but I haven't got the nerve to leave it on its own, I'd be sleeping next to it, so I just do nice long mashes and between SWMBO and myself its checked on every 10-15 min in case of any fountains, touch wood, only 1 small one so far.
