BM Help

Post by cqout » Sat Jan 23, 2016 2:03 pm

Hi all

I am now making a alva based braumeister (alvameister) from a bergland pot and actual speidel parts - i have the center rod, my question is how does this fix through the bottom of the genuine BM? Any advice or pictures would be great.

Cheers

BM Help

Not my image, but as I own a 2015 20l which is packed away, I'm 99% sure it's still the same as this older version.

Obviously cannot see below the cover, but doubt you'll find anyone removing it ;-)

Cheers for the link

Is what I dont understand is how it is made water tight or how I could make it water tight using the original rod

Is the original rod not threaded at both ends?

I'm guessing it projects through the bottom of the pot and is sealed by a gasket which is compressed by a nut & washer outside the pot?

Either that or it has a larger end & is fed through the bottom of the pot, through a gasket & that collar you see in the photos tightens down to compress the gasket?

Just finished cleaning mine. Here’s what I see. Both ends of the rod are threaded (nuts are M12, I think). The rod goes straight through the base of the unit. Outside there is a nut and washer; inside there is another ‘nut’ larger to help stabilise the rod; between the inside nut and the base there is a rubber gasket, which keeps things water tight. Check out Barneey’s Bread Maker thread.

As I replied to this via a PM, it would also be good for a general post so will quote myself, so at least the idea is on the public forum.
There are several ways to achieve the end result, the current build I bought a length of stainless rod from ebay, threaded the top to take a wingnut and threaded an extended thread on the bottom to take 2 nuts and a washer. One nut is boil side the other & washer is dry side, both tightened against each other with a little JB weld to seal. Other ways silver solder a washer above the thread & use a silicone washer boiler side.

In an ideal world it should of course be welded but that would be a specialist job.

So if you have the original rod can you do either of the above? assuming the length would still be OK as original has a block from memory where is sits on / screws into?

Thank you barneey

Would you be able to post a picture?
Also which type of jb weld do you use as there seems to be a few :-)

Many thanks
