Wine expert kits high ABV

Post by bobsbeer » Tue Aug 16, 2016 1:38 pm

I think I'm going to increase the volume of my Wine Expert kits in future. The last two I have made, Malbec and Shiraz have both ended up over 14% ABV when making to the recommended starting volume of 23 lts. While a very good ABV I tend to like my reds slightly less as a quaffing wine. So I'm going to increase the volume to 24 lts and hopefully achieve around 1.085-1.090 starting gravity instead of 1.095 which was my last one. This should not only give me more wine, but give me an ABV of around 13%, which is still decent for a good red, but less alcoholic.

Yours sounds like it might make a decent elderberry port.
