Estimating original gravity

Post by gregles » Sun Jun 21, 2015 1:29 pm

Is there any way to estimate the original gravity of 4 litres of apple juice, tescos own, with 400g added soft brown sugar and a mug of tea :D

I'm guessing it's unlikely if it's just apple juice, but do they give any indication of the sugar content on the packaging of the apple juice?

Sorry, for clarity my thinking was that if they do then you may be able to get a rough figure for the total sugar content of your mixture and thereby estimate the OG.

I assume you either don't have a hydrometer, forgot to take a reading when you started fermentation or want to work out a rough OG before committing yourself to the recipe?

Hi James,

I have it fermenting at the moment and forgot to take a reading. I have just had a look at this http://mpesgens.home.xs4all.nl/thwp/sugar.html#calcalc
and got an estimate of 1075 og 8)
