Tea in Cider

Post by Secla » Thu Nov 19, 2015 12:08 am

Im going to kick off a 23l batch of turbo cider tomorrow, Never made it before but have read that most add 1l of strong black tea for tannin.
Do i use 22l of juice + 1l of tea or do i just add the 1l on top of 23l of juice ?

I have a packet of MJ cider yeast which is recommended for a 23l batch

When I used to use tea it was a very strong but not stewed mug to a gallon. But then I switched to powdered tannin to leave more space for Apple juice. A litre of very strong plus 22 of AJ should be ok.
But I suggest you use something like 20 of AJ and 2 of cranberry. Maybe even 18+4.

Maybe il pick up some tannin next time I'm at the HBS

Since you have the MJ cider yeast, use it, but next time around try an ale yeast - slightly softer fuller flavour.
