Mangrove Jacks mixed berry cider from Imake_UK giveaway

Hi all,
As the winner of the Mangrove Jack's mixed berry cider from Imake_uk (thanks Mark!)
I thought I should give a progress report:

Like others I wondered where the yeast was, upon opening the pouch all becomes clear, Thanks to a clever 2 compartment design the dry good are seperate from the fruit puree:

Inside the dry goods side are the yeast, sweetener and "mixed berry flavouring" to be added post fermentation.

I boiled the 3L of water and mixed 1.5L with the Brewing sugar , this was the only other ingredient i had to buy:

I then used the other 1.5L to rinse out the jug to make sure I had as much of the sugary solution as possible.

The contents of the wet side of the pouch were added to the fermenter with the sugar solution:

Then cold water was added to bring the volume up to near the 23L mark:

A quick check of the temp 25C before pitching the yeast ,

And a gravity check more out of curiosity than anything 1043

Then a sprinkle of the Mangrove jacks yeast:
and into the fermentation fridge set at 20.5C for the next 7 days!

I'll update you all when the yeast kicks in,
Cheers all,
Baldbrewer.

Hi BB,

Thanks for posting.

Yes, cider is a bit, erm... fragrant when fermenting. Luckily that dissipates!

I know some people prefer to use a secondary to bulk condition before bottling to clear it all up. If you'd rather not though, leaving it in the bottle for a few weeks before opening will do the trick anyway.

Kegged mixed berry cider
Hi all,
Been mad with work but felt I should update on the mix berry cider,
I bottled and corny kegged this cider,
So the verdict a very nice cider, I only added 3/4 of the sweetener and this has given the cider a nice level of sharpness not too dry.
It met with the approval of my wife and daughter both of whom like a cider with ice.
"Not too much berry flavouring" "just perfect as it doesn't taste artificial"
Were a couple of quotes,

Not sure why photos are on the side from the iPad but you get the idea!
Thanks again to Mark form Imake_UK for the giveaway just need some summer to make the best of this lovely cider!

Cheers all,
Baldbrewer
