Bottle conditioned Ciders yeast Harvest?

Post by DC » Thu Jun 08, 2017 9:31 pm

Hey all, been away from brewing for ages and looking to get back into it with a Turbo Cider  just wondering if there are any Bottle Conditioned Ciders kicking about these days that i could harvest the yeast from? To get me going without having to buy online or make a trip to the home brew shop ! I know Old Rosie used to have a viable yeast a few years back but apparently not anymore :(

Any help greatly received

Can't say I've seen any commercial ciders recently with yeast in. I'm m still using Wyeast 3711 from about 5 brews ago. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

A surprising number of cider makers are using ale yeasts lately - lower attenuation, 'softer' finish, blah blah. So, if you can't find a cider with yeast you can harvest, maybe an ale?

They are out there but it might be easier to just get a sachet of yeast

As far as I'm aware Olivers uses a natural succession of yeasts from the fruit so you may not get what you were expecting if you culture. I'm not sure about Perry's cider though. Your best bet for consistency is to get a packet of whatever you want- ale, cider or wine yeast
Good luck
