Additional bag in cider press

Post by jaquiss2005 » Wed Jun 21, 2017 10:29 pm

Have a 12 litre cider press which I used for the first time last year. Always seemed a struggle to get too much pulp into one straining bag, and was thinking of getting a second bag and effectively making two "cheeses" at a time, one on top of the other, as cider preducers do, but without anything in between.

Anyone tried this and if so, was it worthwhile?

I've not tried this but don't see why it's not going to be a good idea. If one bag isn't big enough, then get another bag.
You're working on reasonably large scale, so you're not going to lose significantly more in the juice staying in the bag material.
you could add some straw between the two bags if you want extra drainage, or you could add a plastic or wooden lattice.
