I know there are pear ciders, but has anyone out there ever made a pear mead?

Fruit mead is also known as melomel. I googled "pear melomel", and this page came up. There are a couple of recipes there.

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.
Secondary FV: As yet unnamed Weizenbock ~7%
Bulk aging: Soodo: Grocery store grape juice wine experiment.
Drinking: Mostly Canadian whisky until I start brewing again.

pears can be as problematic to deal with as apples. You certainly don't want to use any heat when processing them, as you'd end up with a "cooked" taste.

I'd suggest either just crushing them whole and then fermenting on the pulp, or make a straight, traditional brew, and add either fruit pulp (not blitzed as you don't want to break/crush the seeds) or crush and press the fruit too juice and add one or the other too secondary.

Thanks for the link. I may brew this or not, I posted this because the thought popped into my head "Hey, how about pear mead?" And if I don't use the few thoughts I get they go by-by. :) I regularly post questions about brews I may not do just to see what experiences other brewers have had and sometimes inspiration comes on me.
