Seymour Citra Gold

Post by Fairbrew » Wed Jul 24, 2013 5:52 pm

I would just like to say a big thank you to Seymour. I brewed a batch of his Citra gold for a bbq recently and how well did it go down. The 19ltr corny was emptied in 3 hrs and even the lager drinkers were loving it!
It was a hot day so I had it quite cold but the flavours were still shining through. A classic summer ale I will definately brew again. I also brewed the same recipe only adding the same amount of Apollo with the Citra . This worked really well with lots of fresh grapefruity flavours.
Thanks again for the recipe

Looks good, Citra is an awesome hop, I made a similar recipe but upped the quantities for an IPA of 6%. Tasted lovely and I will be making it again.

I agree, I had my first citra hopped beer last night and really enjoyed it.
I'm just here for the beer.

Just looking at the recipe it looks good, did you add the orange peel?

I have brewed this three times, the orange peel helps.

Brewing this myself at the weekend. Got 2 medium sized oranges to use and I might up the late hops to finish a pack off but not sure yet :-k

Sounds good; glad you guys are enjoying it so much. If you're in the mood to deviate from the single-hop concept: I think it's great combined with Strisselspalt/Sladek hops, some chopped lemongrass and lime leaves too. Mmmm...

It's not just for summer anymore. I'm thinking of something along these lines as an end-of-summer harvest ale with Saison yeast. :)

If I do add more late hops it'll just be more Citra :-)

Just kegged my 1st go at this.

Must say I'm impressed with the glass from the fermenter. You can really taste the orange in it. It's maybe slightly bitter at the moment but once it's had a few weeks in keg, I'm sure it'll mellow. Might up the oats a little next time to give it a bit more mouth feel but I did mash a bit cooler than I was hoping so that would have had an effect.
Will definitely be doing this again though. Really tasty brew, thanks Seymour =D>

Cheers Tom

I wish I'd read this yesterday. However it may not be too late. I pitched this morning but retro fitting some orange might be nice. If I sterilise some orange peel by boiling, put in a hop bag and add to the cornie that ought to do the trick and as I'm aiming for a christmas brew has plenty of time to mature.

It's only the orange zest though, non of the white stuff :)

Nutmeg grater thingy but it looked exactly the same as the fine side of our standard cheese grater. There didn't seem to be a lot zest when I'd done the two oranges but it really has shown through in the final beer :)

Cheers Tom
