Brown Porter and oak chips ?
Thinking about brewing a kyle the s Porter and removing 9 litres and breaking it down into two 4.5 litres batch s. With one lot add oak chips soaked in brandy, with the other oak chips soaked in sherry.
The main question s would be
How much oak to use ? I was thinking 10-20g s in each
How long ? I've heard 5- 10 days is more than enough
Should I add the chips and soaking liquor believes this adds even more flavour
Anything I've missed
Thanks in advance sean

As oak chunks and chips have different rates of flavouring the beer I just use half of what I have and taste daily until I'm satisfied.

Usually about 50g or so for a 23L batch.

I used Malt Miller's oak chunks, they were better than chips.

I did a porter a couple of months a go and did similar to you, I soaked a whole pack of malt Miller oak chunks in Jack Daniels, repeatedly so that they absorbed plenty then chucked the lot in for a week, turned out well but the flavour does fade with time.
