Nectarine beer

Hi all,

I have an older relative who won't stop giving me nectarines. I have over 20 of them, and more coming. Any idea what I can do with them? Could I add them at the boil stage? Thinking of something similar to what Brewdog do with Elvis Juice with the grapefruit being added right at the end of the boil?

Any ideas / suggestions / words of wisdom?

i don't know about beer but peach wine is supposed to be very good.

I used Mandarins in a wheat beer. Be careful use just the zest of one in the boil then consider using the zest of one more at the end of fermentation if the taste is fairly low from the first. I steamed mine before zesting.

He is talking Nectarines, not Mandarins, Orlando :D

He is talking Nectarines, not Mandarins, Orlando :D
Hairless Peaches! What was I thinking? Is there an "orange" beginning with N. Still better off with Mandarins. :roll:

Yes, Navel, but that doesn't help :roll: I quite like the sound of Mandarin though. The only time I've used orange in any form was Curacao Orange Peel in a Wit I did last year. Adds a nice note. As for Nectarine - not sure. Mind you, we get plenty of such flavours from various hops, so maybe.

Hi Manngold

It's worth spending the hour it'll take to listen to the Brewing Network show Brewing With Style about Fruit Beers (ink) ... there's some really good discussions on there about using very different fruits in beers, and ISTR them spending a while talking about peaches/nectarines :?

The wheat beer suggestion may well be worth considering though, if you've had the 21st Amendment, Hell or High Watermelon Wheat, you'll know that that's a type of beer that can allow the flavours of even very subtly flavoured fruits to show through :? ... there are clone recipes for that beer all over the internet :wink:
