Hello everyone
Good to be here. Been studying books, blogs and old threads for months now and finally feel ready to brew my first batch. It's a John Bull IPA kit for which the instructions specify the addition of 1kg dextrose.
I want to brew a strong, warming winter ale in time for Christmas, so I would add at least 1kg of BKE (Young's, currently on offer from Tesco at £3.75) to the required brewing sugar, except that I don't have any dextrose. Is there any disadvantage to using 2kg of the Young's enhancer instead? And if I add an additional jar of Holland & Barrett extract of malt would that improve the body and increase the ABV, or might that be too much of a good thing?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Possible to over-enhance?
You will get a better brew if you use spray malt instead of dextrose (brewing sugar) the added Holland & Barrett extract is a fine addition. Feel free to steep yourself some crystal malt and add that to the mix as well.

Thanks Ozzy. Guess I'll use 1kg enhancer and add a jar of malt.
