I know that to pour a good pint from my polykeg there's some trial and error with the beeline lengths but where do I start? Surely I don't need to connect 10m of 3/8 to 10m 3/16 and cut off and inch at a time till I get a decent pint!?

the basic idea is to drop the keg pressure along the length of micro line to a nominal 1-2psi, if the pressure difference at the release point is too high it can stimulate a foam out -> flat beer...

larger diameter line dosent restrict until really long lengths are employed, so thats not a worry,

the thin line restricts between 1 and 2 psi per foot length, closer to 1 psi for the first foot, and a bit more with each further one. so if your serving at 6psi a 3ft-1m length of 3/16th line with any length of 3/8" will probably work a treat, if 10-12psi in the keg, 6ft or 2m will probably hit the sweet spot.

Cheers. So depending on how fizzy I intend drinking my beer, I should vary the length? ie; a heavily carbonated lager will require a longer line than a traditional ale?

pretty much, conditioning charts like the one in the forum sticky or here http://www.kegerators.com/articles/carb ... -chart.php
are a good guide to optimum serving pressures and temps.

with more than 1 tap u can have hi and lower pressure taps, with just the one, the common compromise is to fit the microline for the highest condition beer your likely to brew and just put up with the slower pour for lower conditioned beers..

fyi when setting up my 3/16th line for a higher pressure tap it took one single snip of about a foot off the stock 2m length i started with to get there.. :)
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Hello All

Just received a pair of replacement spears for a leaky spear I had - so still top marks to crusader kegs - all this was for free.

But this is a new design, and the safety tab is much harder to remove. Previously I could just bend one arm of the tab and slide it out. This has a single tab, made of much thicker steel which won't bent. The angle means you can't get a grinder close enough either.

After a fair bit of trial and error, I worked out that I had to disassemble the spear. With the sankey end of the spear gripped in a vice, a pair of long nose pliars and a screwdriver will enable you to apply enough pressure against the spring to push-and-turn. You then collect all the pieces from around the room and re-assemble without the tab...

Hope this helps someone, I was about to return them to crusader and hope they had some of the older style. Also good to know these can be taken apart without any special tools to replace seals etc.

Do you need to remove the safety tab?
